Should Minnesota impose a 5-cent tax on plastic bags? A bill creating one was filed today at the Capitol in St. Paul. Under Rep. Karen Clark's bill, the retailer keeps a penny of the tax, and two pennies if the store allows customers to bring plastic bags back for a 5-cent credit. Basically, it's a bottle-bill for bags.
The first measure of a new recycling program at St. Paul's biggest entertainment and sports venues shows a jump in recycling and a drop in trash. According to RiverCentre officials, the recycling rate across the facilities for the fourth quarter of 2009 was 41 percent. That's more than double the recycling rate measured before the project. In November 2009 alone the recycling rate reached 47 percent.
About 75% of airlines´ in-flight waste can be recycled, but only about 20% actually is, according to a new report from ResponsibleShopper.org, which calls itself a consumer watchdog Web site
